topic: Auto-Indexing

NU-DBH
Posts 1
The current version of Slide Executive Desktop will automatically index presentations when the program is lauched. Is there a way to open the program without the auto-index and manually enter the location where you would like the presentations to be imported from (most likely off a server)? Or is there a way to set up the auto-index to go directly to the desired folder?

Is there a way to Save or download a virtual presentation? I understand that it would break the auto-linking/auto update process, but could you make a .ppt file of a virtual presentation?

I don't see a properties tab when I expand a presentation in the tree. Also, how can I see the details of a slide (date created and updated) from within slide executive? I am using version 2.8.

Hello,

It is nice to see that French has been introduced in version 3, and that it is well translated.
But somes texts are still to be transled:
In the "Outlook left bar":
Tools -> Outils
Current -> Courantes
Previous imports -> Imports précédents
Previous exports -> Exports précédents
In Slidebacket preview:
Showing 1-10 of 20 items -> Affichage des éléments 1-10 sur 20
In the icon bar:
"Chercher dans site" would be better than "Chercher le site"

We currently do not provide a list of available or existing keywords within the system but if we get requests for this we will implement it.

File meta data is currently static but we are working on a solution that will allow our customers to modify the metadata as it suites them.

Is it possible to define keywords ex ante so that every user can select out of a defined key word list? Is it possible to change the categories of the "file metadata" when uploading a new presentation?

Yes it is. In the tree, simply expand a presentation and select the slide. Then press the properties tab and enter the desired keywords for that slide. Keywords entered in a search will the hit that specific slide.

Hello,

I think it depends a lot on how you are using the application but I do agree, for your needs there is a lack in functionality.

We are just coming out with version 2.7 now but I will make sure we implement your requested functionalities for version 2.8.

Hi all,

I have recently bought SE Desktop edition.
It's a great software indeed, but there is a CRUEL lack of functionnality in the export module.

SE is supposed to be a software designed to save time. But in the end I'm not sure it is ;
Do you consider as normal that fact that you have to export your virtual presentation ONE BY ONE into a real ppt ?! It takes me usually several hours to export my whole work.

Some more options would be welcome, such as "export selected presentations", "remember export path", and "export everything", and it wouldn't be the hardest thing to code.

This kind of functionnality should have been implemented in the 1.0 version.

Do you have some plans to solve this issue ?

Tom,

As of version 2.6, Slide Executive Desktop does infact index the notes part of the slide. It is also searchable from the search pane.

PowerPoint does have a unique value per slide but unfortunately the value is only unique within the same presentation. Let me get back to you regarding this duplicate slide issue as we have some other requests related to it that we need to figure out.

SE desktop has a build-in feature "Send feedabck" to contact you with suggestions and the like.
I think this is great.

However, every suggestions passed on that way "disappears" immeditaly: there's no trace for the sender, nor for the user community.

May I suggest all feedback to be (semi-) automatically published on this forum?

Thx!

Does SE (desktop ediiton) only indexes the outline text, or is the textin the related note pages also indexed?

Two reasons for the question:
1) we use notes pages extensively
2) we are considering adding a unique id for each slide in the note page, to find duplicates back.
You might argue that SE does so, but whenever we translate from Eng to Duthc or French, or just sligtly change the outline, SE cannot recognize these slides are related.

What we would need to keep track thereof is something along these lines:

- retrieves from some location (txt, ini, whatever) the last IDn° used
- for each subfolders of a given folder (no GUI needed, I can start it up in command line style or within a ppt from that folder) and
o for each ppt / pptx (I have both formats) in that folder
 for each slide in that ppt/pptx
• if there’s no Identifier on it (a fixed labeled text box – say “MIGID” - with an ID somewhere on the note page)
o increase ID
o add a textbox – preferably top or bottom left - with the new ID as content
• endif
 endfor // slide
o endfor // ppt
- endfor // subfolder
- stores new IDn° // best an easy accesible location, so manual correction is easy. just in case ...

This is relaed to the suggestion to allow a "link/unlink" fuctionality I've send to you from within SE
